The world we live in focuses on the outward physical appearance, and a strive for ‘perfection’ that is unattainable. However, true beauty is in the character of a person, beauty on the inside which depends on thoughts, attitudes, motivation and actions.
This a stylised red rose that represents a woman of God with the heart of gold in her spirit. The idea for this painting was inspired by 1 Peter 3:3-4 ‘Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewellery and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.’
There is nothing wrong with outward adornment and with wanting to look your best, but it is not everything. I remember hearing someone say that ‘how you look is the least interesting thing about you’ which I thought was very profound.
God doesn’t look at the outward appearance, He looks at the heart.
