Hi, I’m Carmen Buckley, a local Taranaki artist.
From a young age, I’ve expressed myself through art, inspired by my faith and upbringing in Auckland. After obtaining a diploma in Graphic Art and Design from Whitcliffe Art School in 1989, I developed my own unique style of art over the course of many years.
My artistic journey has led me to create symbolic and graphic works, often reflecting my faith and life experiences. I have participated in exhibitions and taught drawing in Auckland and Taranaki as well as a creative workshop near my home. Each piece I create is often accompanied by an explanation, offering deeper insight into my artistic message.

Heart Logo
For some art works I have signed them with a logo of the word Heart with the symbol. The reason behind doing this was that I did not want to think of the art work as ‘mine’ but inspired and dedicated to God. This is the meaning and inspiration behind the logo.
Heart
From NIV bible study notes on Psalm 4:7
‘Heart’ in biblical language is the centre of the human spirit, from which spring emotions, thought, motivations, courage and action. As in Proverbs 4:23 – “Above all else, guard your heart, for It is the wellspring of life.”
He-art
‘He’ is in the heart symbol, and ‘He’ is meaning God. The art is for Him, about Him, and inspired by Him.
Hear-t
The t is in the shape of the cross, so it is like saying ‘hear about Jesus’. The art is a way of telling others about Christ.
The heart symbol
The symbol of love is the heart. One of the character traits of God is love (1 John 4:8, 16). The heart symbol is around the ‘He’ and is to express that I love God, He also asks us to love others. The heart symbol is often incorporated in my art designs, and I also sign my name with a heart on its tail.
