In an office with the financial paperwork, an invoice will be stamped with ‘PAID’ when payment has been made.  Jesus has paid off our debt of sin by his sacrifice and shedding of blood.  No more payment is needed.

In Hebrews 9:22 it says: ‘In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”  And in verses 26-27 it says: “But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.  Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people.”

In Revelation 5:9 it says: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.

Because of our sin we were to be eternity separated from God in Hell and in torment.  But the righteous requirements of the law were fulfilled by what Jesus Christ did on the cross.
