When I sketched this, I didn’t realise that it would be a recording of my last time with my Dad. I feel very thankful that I had that time with him as he slept peacefully. As the radio played some music from his era as a young man, I was able to study his features and recall memories of different times that I had with him through the years.
I did two sketches of him, talked to him as he slept, prayed for him before I left and thought I would see him the following day. The next day the rest home was in lock down due to a covid case and no one could come in, so I went back to Taranaki. Dad passed away four days after I sketched him. This is how I remember Dad, resting and peaceful. I am so thankful to have been given that privilege to have that memory.
