I came across a photo on our computer that one of my daughters had taken nearly 10 years ago. The image was blurry and would have been taken randomly while she was walking with her friends one evening. The image stood out to me as I liked the composition of the relaxed grouping of her teenage friends, and the effect of the dramatic silhouette and shadows.
I wanted to paint this image as a snapshot in time of my daughter’s teenage years. After painting it, I was aware that the pole and sign underneath the street light looked like a cross that was lit up. I was a teenager when I started to be more aware of God and was interested in finding out more about Jesus. So I like the idea that the painting makes it look like the teenagers are drawing closer to ‘the light’ and knowledge of God.
