When we moved to Taranaki, we moved to a lifestyle block. This was our first experience of living in the country. We got one goat and named him ‘Mr Tumness’ from the name of the faun in the story of the ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’. We thought Mr Tumness was lonely so we got ‘Susan’. As my husband and daughter are soft hearted with animals, they made a mercy dash to pick up a very small goat when they heard that he was about to be put down. On the way home while he was sitting on my daughter’s lap, she named him ‘Bonnie’.
Bonnie grew up quickly and was no longer a tiny goat. Before we were prepared, he had fathered ‘Caspian’ and ‘Lucy’. My daughter loves our family of goats, and she says that Bonnie is her favourite. She calls him her ‘beautiful baby Bonnie’ and her ‘number one son’.
One day, while I was wandering around our section with my camera, Bonnie followed me everywhere and photo bombed most of my photos. I like his inquisitive focused look, as well as how the background in the shed has a multitude of angled lines and shadings in contrast to Bonnie.
