‘Connections’
Medium: Acrylic on canvas board
Size: 23cm x 30cm

My father passed away on 27 May 2022 and I painted this shortly after my father’s funeral.

A funeral brings people together in one place – both family, friends and also people you don’t know.  All the connections overlap like different coloured circles of transparent glass – each represented by a different colour which portrays different personalities and emotion.  The funeral was evident of those connections.

I think it is interesting how we all relate differently to each other.  The way I would relate to one person is different than how I relate to someone else, therefore there is a different dynamic that happens.  To try and explain this idea, imagine you are ‘yellow’.  When you relate to someone who is ‘blue’ together the dynamics of you both together makes ‘green’.  When you relate to someone else who is a ‘red’, then together the dynamics become ‘orange’.

The broken pane of glass is to show the state of a broken and fractured relationship with a very important person in my life at the funeral.  It is a small section of glass but its presence has impact on the whole picture.
