I wanted to express and declare who Jesus is for me. The verses that inspired me was when one of Jesus’ disciples declared who he believed Jesus was. The verses are in Matthew 16:13-16 ‘Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked, “who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the son of the living God.”
I used brighter colours than what I would have normally, as I wanted to show passion, life and energy. The dark by the other hand was to show the conflict that a believer faces with belief and unbelief ie: when a man asked Jesus to heal his son, he was recorded as saying in Mark 9:24 “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” I designed for the hands to be reaching out to the light source, picturing Simon Peter, when he said his declaration, staring at the face of Jesus – the light of the world. I used a photo of my husband’s hands as a reference. As Simon Peter was a man who did physical work, likewise is my husband and I thought it suited having a man’s hands instead of my own.
