This image is taken from a photo of the painting as the original digital is no longer available.
This painting was inspired by the verses in 1 John 4:10-12 – “This is love: not that we love God, but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us we ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
In this picture all the characters are believers. The different colours are to show the variety of their race, gender, nationalities and personalities. Some are friends, some are strangers and some are married like the two with joined hearts. As believers we have the love of God in our hearts and his glory is with us. I had painted the hearts in gold as well as the top of each person’s head. This would have been the first time that I started to use gold paint as an indicator of God’s presence, and an early example of my use of black outlines.
