Molly came into our family when she was at 8 weeks old, and was with us till she was a couple of months away from her 17th birthday. She was a constant friend and companion for our daughters while they grew up, and in Molly’s last years our youngest daughter was her most devoted caregiver.
I had wanted to paint a picture of Molly a year before she passed, but it didn’t feel like the right time as the thought of recording her likeness with knowing that she wouldn’t be with us for too much longer felt too hard to think about. It has taken me two years to get around to doing this painting. This is how we remember Molly, an old gentle girl, with her ‘jarmies’ on and sitting on her mattress, looking out for for our daughter – who was never too far away. She will never be forgotten.
