Psalm 119:105 is the verse that is quoted in this painting. There is also another verse that I was thinking about when I designed this idea and that was Matthew 5:14-16 – ‘You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven.’
I have quite a few design ideas with the concept of being plugged in to a heavenly power source. I was thinking how we are all designed uniquely with different giftings. That got me thinking symbolically (as I seem to do) on if we were all different electrical appliances. We can be designed for a purpose but we don’t reach our potential if we are not plugged in. The description of a lamp in the bible was probably the small pinched clay vessels that had a wick that could be lit which is connected to a source of oil. However, I wanted to modernise the idea of the lamp. The lamp shown is a bedside lamp for reading in either the early or late hours – a great way to start and finish the day with getting plugged into the powerful words of the Bible.
